2015 BetterRide Downhill Mountain Bike Camp

Learn from Mitch Ropelato's and Team Geronimo's coach Gene Hamilton! BetterRide is putting on a 3-day downhill mountain bike camp at Northstar California. This is an amazing opportunity to learn from one of the most experienced coaches in the sport. Learn to rail corners like Mitch Ropelato, fly through rock gardens like Graeme Pitts and race like Greg Minnaar.

You will learn the core, fundamental skills of downhill mountain bike riding and racing. These core skills are not intuitive, unless someone taught you them it is unlikely that would know and understand them. BetterRide coaches get the rider to understand these techniques with drills and then on trail application of the skills. You will also learn drills that you can take home with you for further practice and improvement.

When: June 26 - 28 & July 10 – 12, 2015

Where: Northstar California Resort, Truckee, CA

Who: Up to 14 lucky riders

Click here for more information and to register, email betterride@gmail.com or call 970.261.1869.

Testimonials

"I learned more in this camp than in my entire career to date. The changes to my body position and cornering have already made me much faster."  Andrew Pierce, Go-Ride Factory Team

"My first run down the mountain was on a trail that I had ridden many times before. Gene was following me half way down (to see if I was really paying attention) and it was my best run ever!!!  That one run alone was worth the fee for the clinic, I was so impressed with what I had learned so far!"  - Norba expert racer Chris Shelley

Here is what 2009 Pro 4x and Jr. Cat 1 Downhill  US National Champion Mitch Ropelato said in a interview in the Oct. 2009 issue of DIRT Magazine:

Dirt Magazine: "You seem to be able to turn amazingly, what do you put that down to? Got any special tires on there?

Mitch Ropelato: " Ya, Gene Hamilton is to thank for that, I took is clinic last December in Bootleg Canyon and he was able to show me the correct technique I needed to pull them off."

Northstar California and Project MANA are excited to join forces on an exciting new kid's culinary competition and you're invited to join!

Kids ages 8-12 are invited to submit a video telling us why they should be one of the lucky teams selected to battle it out at the Mountain Kid's Cook-Off. Ten teams will be selected to cook in the semi-final round on Sunday August 16 at the Northstar Zephyr Lodge. Teams will be given a platter of secret ingredients and will have to create a dish to excite the judges. All participants will receive a logo-ed apron and two lucky teams will be selected to compete in the finals on Saturday September 12 during the 30th anniversary of the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival. Two final teams will battle it out on the Village Stage in front of their friends and families for the winner's trophy and more cool prizes!

The semi-final round will also be a fundraiser benefiting Project MANA, a local Tahoe-based non-profit. Project MANA's mission is to reduce the incidence of hunger and its detrimental effects upon individuals, families, the community and the region. In addition to providing hunger relief, they have developed programs designed to alleviate the causes of hunger and promote nutrition through education and awareness.

Families, friends and spectators will be invited to attend the semi-finals to cheer on their teams during the on-mountain luncheon. Enduro Mountain Bike Race

This rapidly growing discipline combines the physical endurance of cross-country mountain bike riding with the technical difficulty and excitement of downhill mountain bike racing. The 2015 Enduro Races will consist of a minimum of two timed Special Stages linked together by untimed Transfer Stages. The timed Special Stages will be a variation of downhill courses. The untimed Transfer Stages could require uphill pedaling and the use of our chair lifts to get to each Special Stage. There will be no assigned start times at the Special Stages. Racers will start the Special Stages every 40 seconds in no particular order. The competitor in each category with the fastest combined time from the Special Stages will win the event. The top three racers in each division will receive awards at the conclusion of each race.

Time

Races will start at 9:00 am. All racers must check-in between 7:30 am - 8:30 am the morning of the race in the Tickets & Season Pass Office.
