Northstar has terrain parks built just for kids. Everything is kid sized. No more staring down a five-foot-tall mogul.
The parks are designed with bumps, jumps, and secret hideouts. There are special snow play areas where they can kick off their skis and snowboards and just have fun in the snow. And since the runs are built right off mainstream runs, the family is never far away.
Star Parks are patrolled by Northstar's ski patrol and mountain safety staff.
Come check out all the Tahoe family fun at the Northstar Action Zone! The Action Zone Yurt is located mid-mountain just above the base of Arrow Lift. Tickets for Action Zone activities can be purchased in the Zone or any Northstar ticketing location.
Tubing
On the next Tahoe family vacation, try tubing down a slope, feeling the cold spray of snow in your face! In the tubing area, tubes and riders are transported by tow lift to the top of the hill.
Snowtoys
Snowtoys only allowed on Vista and Bearpaw Lifts, and riders must have a valid lift ticket.
Childcare and Ski & Snow Play Activities for Young Children
Northstar-at-Tahoe, recognized as a top family resort, offers Minors' Camp licensed childcare for ages 2-4 where kids as young as 3 can participate in our Ski and Snow Play program. (All children must be toilet trained.) Minors’ Camp accepts children ages 2-6, however, recommends that children ages 4-6 participate in Northstar’s award-winning StarTykes program located at the Ski and Snowboard School . StarTykes is specifically tailored to this age group ensuring kids a ski experience they won’t forget.
In winter, Northstar offers two wonderful programs for your little ones under age 4 during your Tahoe family vacation. Whether you choose a private lesson for individualized instruction, or our free group session, our experienced instructors will work with you and your children to learn the important first steps to skiing. Both parents and children will need to come with lift tickets and equipment.
Both programs are located at the Ski and Snowboard School.
The sooner you start them, the sooner you'll be trying to keep up with them.Ski Magazine and Family Life Magazine nationally rank Northstar's family programs and kids ski school as one of the best in the country. So your kids can start their skiing/ boarding experience with the best, and you'll have a great family vacation at Northstar.
The Northstar Race Team is a local alpine and snowboard race program. Seven different programs are offered: Junior, Development, Far West, Masters, Development Snowboarding, Competitive Snowboarding Skiing Free Ride.
Secondly, participants should allowed the opportunity to take their skiing/snowboarding skills to the highest level, all the way to World Cup Class.
Lastly, respect and appreciation for the mountain environment is stressed.
Captain Safety, Northstar's safety super-hero, is Northstar's safety ambassador. Captain Safety wears a yellow cape and has a special super-hero phone booth located at mid-mountain. He;s frequently found skiing or at his phone booth, dispensing safety tips, answering questions, and quizzing kids on their on-mountain safety knowledge.
Also, everyday Captain Safety posts a safety tip of the day at the top of the gondola and chooses a special chairlift to ride that day. Kids can tell him one of the safety codes; all kids who share their knowledge with Captain Safety win great prizes.
How often do you find kids enjoying the same fine foods parents enjoy? Unless you are the luckiest parents on the face of the earth, not very often. With that in mind, Northstar has made sure that the restaurants and lodges across the mountain have things that even the pickiest eaters will like.

Northstar's ice rink is a great gathering place with outdoor fire pits, a s’mores kiosk, boutiques and restaurants surrounding it on all sides. Kids' Group lessons are offered on Thursday and Saturday. Skate rentals are $5 and skating is complimentary.
